Sometimes life just gets in they way. I planned to start P90X at the beginning of the year, but life had a different plan for me. Instead I started the year in my homemade sick bay for the first week, watching a bunch of movies off my list. I don’t usually get sick but when I do, I do. Nothing by halves. As much as I wanted to start #18 I didn’t want to do it while on antibiotics. So just three weeks ago, I got out the dvd’s, exercise equipment and grew a pair, so to speak. Again with the not doing things by halves, I also decided it would be a great idea to do a boot camp in addition to the P90X program.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Fri I would wake up at 6:30 to go to boot camp then, depending if I was working that night I would either come home and do a second workout or save it for that afternoon. I chose to take on the Classic P90X regime, which was 6 days a week, with one rest or stretch day. Waking up at 6:30am three days a week was a new adventure for me, and after getting home at 1am after work most nights it was probably inevitable what was going to happen next.
All was pretty much going well until 4 days ago when I noticed I had a slightly sore throat. After pumping my body with Vitamin C, Athletic Greens and any thing else I could find, it told me to shove it and went for a full-blown flu, chest congestion and all. Bugger!!
My body is rather exciting and so I have to be on top of it when I get a cold or flu that it doesn’t worsen to pneumonia etc. So I took myself to the doctors for some magical antibiotics. Needless to say, I have not worked out since Tuesday. Does this mean I need to restart from day 1 of P90X to confidently cross #18 off my list? Theoretically I wrote that I just need to do the “full 90 days of P90X”. I did not say I needed to do it consecutively. After starting to pursue the things on this list I have learnt flexibility. There is no perfect time to start anything, it is better to start and deal with the speed bumps as they come up. Even if I had not gotten sick, during these 90 days I had planned many things that would make it a little more of a challenge to complete the program consecutively. I will be travelling to 3 different states, partying at Coachella and holidaying internationally. Some how I will make it work. What I’m most afraid of is losing the fitness I had started to build.
Potentially this weekend, while I am in New York, depending on how fast the antibiotics work their magic, I will take a run around Central Park or even start week 3 of P90X again. Keep on keeping on!
